IMU Centre for Education (ICE) Team members strive to achieve excellence in learning and teaching activities, support quality assurance and promote educational research among IMU faculty members and also provide consultancy in the area of health professions education.


ICE Team Members

 

A/Prof Stefan Kutzsche is a paediatrician and anaesthesiologist with a longstanding broad clinical experience, and combines both administrative and educational skills. He came from the Department of Neonatal Intensive Care Medicine, at Ulleval Oslo University Hospital to join IMU in April 2014. He completed MSc in Health Professionals Education at the University of Maastricht in 2011, master in health management (MHA) at the University of Oslo in 2006 and his PhD in neonatology in 2002. He is certified in multicultural pedagogy as well as in paediatric bioethics from the University of Missouri. He was formerly the editor of the Journal of the Norwegian Paediatric Association. His main interests are neonatal intensive care medicine, paediatric bioethics; workplace based learning, clinical teaching at the bedside, clinical supervision, reflective learning and decision making.

Professor Victor Lim is Vice President, Education.  He is Professor of Pathology of Faculty of Medicine and Health. He is also the  Advisor  for ICE. His fields of interest in medical education include curriculum design and academic management. He is presently the Immediate Past President of the Western Pacific Society of Chemotherapy, the Master of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences of Malaysia. His fields of interest include antimicrobial chemotherapy and infectious diseases and has published and presented over 300 scientific papers.

Norul Hidayah binti Mamat @ Muhammad is currently the Coordinator for Evaluation and based in IMU Centre for Education. She has extensive academic and administrative experiences, with 16 years of teaching experiences in colleges and universities; and assuming various administrative positions such as Programme Coordinator, Head of Department and Associate Dean. Her current position includes overseeing the Student Evaluation Process and Development for all the programmes in IMU

Catherine Arokiasamy is a Senior Executive in IMU Centre of Education (ICE).  She plays a key role in the planning and organising of various conferences, symposia, courses and training activities related to health professionals education.  She also provides support for the on-going teaching and learning activities such as curriculum review and faculty development.  Catherine had been involved in coordinating the Evaluation and Student Preparedness exercises as well as tracking of IMU students at the Partner Medical Schools (PMS).  Before joining IMU, she worked as Secretary to a few Consultants at the Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital in Penang for 10 years.

A/Prof Chen Yu Sui is Associate Professor of Human Biology, School of Medicine.  Her areas of interest include reproductive biology, endocrinology, cardiovascular and respiratory physiology. Her interest in education lies mainly in Problem-based Learning (PBL) and had been a PBL co-ordinator of Medical Programme for eight years. Besides this, she has played active roles in curriculum design for certain modules in BPharm, Biomedical Science and Chinese Medicine programmes. She was appointed Programme co-ordinator for Biomedical Science from 2009 to 2012. In more recent years, her interest has included inter-professional learning.

A/Prof Shahid Mitha is a Paediatric Dentist attached to the School of Dentistry at the IMU since 2009. Before joining the International Medical University he was Associate Professor, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Head, Department of Dental Materials. His teaching experience runs over 20 years and his areas of interest in medical education include teaching and learning methodologies, faculty training and communication skills.

A/Prof. Nyunt Wai has been involved in teaching of Physiology to medical students since 1972.  Prior to joining IMU, he was the Professor and Head of Department of Physiology, Institute of Medicine 1, Yangon, from  1995- 2006.  While reading for his PhD, he participated in small group teaching of medical students in Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, University of London. He also studied medical education in Adelaide University for a month in 2003.  His fields of interest include medical education in the areas of curriculum planning and assessment, and publication.

A/Prof Sharifah Suhaila is the Associate Dean, Clinical Learning and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Her fields of interest in medical education include curriculum design, competency and assessment. She is currently managing a project on clinical competency for the medical curriculum.

A/Prof Nazimah Idris is Associate Dean, Clinical School.  She has been actively involved in teaching medical undergraduates and postgraduates since 2000. A/Prof Hanan AK Omar is Head of Division, Clinical Dental Sciences, School of Dentistry.  Before joining the International Medical University she was a lecturer in the Faculty of Dentistry, Suez Canal University, Egypt. Her fields of interest in medical education include innovation in dental curricula and communication skills.

Professor Pilane Liyanage Ariyananda is the working in the Department of Internal Medicine at the IMU. He is also Emeritus Professor in Medicine in University of Ruhuna, SriLanka. During his tenure in Ruhuna for over three decades he held positions of Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Head, Department of Medicine; Chairman, Staff Development Centre of the University; Chairman, Medical Education & Staff Development Unit of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman, Board of Study in Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Sri Lanka. He had served as an Adjunct Professor in the Duke Global Health Institute, Duke University, USA. He is a Fulbright Scholar. His areas of interest in Health Professional Education are assessment and clinical reasoning.

A/Prof Kang Yew Beng is the Associate Director of E-Learning, a role that he assumed since September 2011. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and previously held the positions of Associate Dean for the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (2009 – 2011), the Head of the department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry (2008 – 2009), and Programme Coordinator for the BPharm (Hons) (2005 – 2008). His fields of interest in education include curriculum design and management, e-learning and matters concerning constructive alignment.

A/Prof Muneer Gohar Babar is the Programme Coordinator and Associate Professor of Community Oral Health in the School of Dentistry at IMU. He practiced dentistry for nearly 17 years and has been involved in education and research since early 2000. Before taking the position at the IMU, he was Assistant Professor and Head of Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry and was affiliated with the Department of Dental Material Science at Sardar Begum Dental College, Gandhara University (Pakistan). He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers in impact factor journals. He is also the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of International e-Journal of Science, Medicine and Education (IeJSME) published by IMU. His fields of interest in medical education include curriculum design and delivery, community based education, academic management and eLearning.

Professor Peter Roman Paul Diakow is the Head of the Chiropractic Division . He has a long history in both education and administration including the Director of the Chiropractic programme at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY, the Director of Graduate Studies at the Canadian Memorial College in Toronto, Canada and clinical supervisor at the St. Michael’s Hospital Wellesley Site Chiropractic Teaching Clinic, also in Toronto. His areas of interest are in postgraduate education, leadership and health policy.
